Well, I'm back.
It's been an awfully long time since I've written a post for my blog.
First, I got really busy with work. In mid-June, I started teaching a new class here at Fort Huachuca. I wasn't too thrilled with this. My enthusiasm for work is at an all-time low. It's been this way ever since I found out that I was selected for a new job (for twice the pay!!!).
Second, I got a new job offer to work in Washington, D.C. For a while there, I was busy filling out paperwork to send to my new employer in Northern Virginia. Unfortunately, there's been a lot of foot dragging by the U.S. Government since this is a contract position. My start date for work keeps getting pushed to the right. As far as I'm concerned, it's time to push on from Sierra Vista, Arizona. I live a very horrible life here, and it's time for pastures new. Living either in Rockville/Bethesda, Maryland, or in Fairfax County, Virginia, is much more to my liking.
I can't wait.
Third, I spent ten days in Japan in order to attend a friend's wedding. I spent the first half of my trip in Oita, the location of my friend's wedding. After that, I spent the better part of five days walking and walking around Fukuoka. I really enjoyed visiting Kyushu. I couldn't believe just how green it is!!! I didn't see all that I wanted see nor did I do all that I wanted to do, yet that's how it goes. I enjoyed Oita quite a bit. It was a lot of fun meeting the friends and family of my friend. I even got to meet some people that I met on my very first trip to Japan back in the autumn of 2004. As for Fukuoka, well, I am totally smitten with that city. I want to go back. I want to go back ASAP. It rained just about every day I was there. Apart from everything getting absolutely soaked in my backpack (despite using an umbrella that I bought from the local Family Mart), I loved it.
Fourth, I thought about my blog quite a bit during that large gap in time. I've thought about deleting it. I've thought about letting my account with Typepad expire altogether. I've even thought about going back to Blogger and Google. What I thought about most, however, was how my blog just isn't what I want it to be. Not even close. The main problem for this is me. It's a combination of high expectations; rambling, epic-length posts; and just not enough hours in the day to do all that I want. After all, this was supposed to be a brief post. Anyhow, I'll just have to keep plugging away. Eventually, I'll find my own style.
